Led by Häfner and Laschewski, Lausitzt Institut für strategische Bersatung GbR, and together with the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research of FEST e.V., RRG was commissioned by the Zukunftswerkstatt Lausitz (ZWL) to develop an indicator system for good life in Lusatia.
Due to the decision of the Federal Government to phase out coal mining industries, Lusatia is facing a variety of challenges of structural change - economically, socially, as well as with regard to its future regional development. The Zukunftswerkstatt Lausitz has already commissioned various pre-studies and initiated stakheolder and public engagement processes in order to develop a spatial development strategy for Lusatia, which is to serve as a guideline for the spatial development in the coming years. The strategy shall be developed with the participation of many actors from the region in form of several workshops, and in parallel a system of indicators for good living in Lusatia shall be developed. With the help of this indicator system, spatial developments in Lusatia will then be monitored in the future, so as the implementation process of the development strategy.
The project team was commissioned to develop this indicator system. The challenges are, on the one hand, to take up the wishes and requirements of the regional actors (relevance for Lusatia), but on the other hand to ensure its connectivity to and compliance with existing regional or national indicator systems (e.g. the SDG indicators of the UN, or the indicators for good living of the Federal Government).
First proposals for the indicator system are expected in mid-May 2020.
