Analysis of Nordic Labour Market Areas (2007) |
|
The delimitation of the current labour market areas in Finland, Norway and Sweden followed more or less traditional delimitation approaches. However, recent demographic developments and shifts in the economic sectors, as well as improved base data at raster level, require to update the present system of labour market areas in the countries concerned. The present project aims to test and to develop new approaches for the delimitation of these areas, which better match both the perspectives of the labour fource and the employers. In order to fulfil this objective, new approaches will be developed and tested, by taking into account new indicators and approaches applied in other countries; furthermore a detailed raster database for entire Finland, Norway and Sweden will be utilized in order to ensure a spatially disaggregated approach.
Contributions of RRG: Besides other indicators, the travel times between the places of residence and places of work play a crucial role for the delimitation of labour market areas. RRG will be responsible for the generation of different kinds of isochrones and accessibility indicators, which will be used as one guiding principle in the delimitation process. Furthermore, RRG will also perform advanced GIS analyses by overlaying different data sets with the generated isochrones in order to test and improve the accuracy and quality of different delimiation approaches.
