Assessment of Central Places in Bavaria (2010) |
Generation of potential service areas and their population potentials |
Following the previous study on Accessibility of Service Facilities crucial for Daily Life in Bavaria the actual study aims to delimitate the service areas of potential Central Places in Bavaria, and tries to assess their population potentials taking account of future demographic trends. Based upon input from the client on potential Central Places, their service areas will be calculated subject to the present road and public transport networks, and the number of inhabitants of these areas will be summed up, and compared against minimum thresholds laid down in official planning documents in Bavaria. By applying an iterative approach, the optimal locations of such Central Places will be identified. In the framework of this study RRG is concerned with the further development of the GIS database and GIS tools, already developed in the previous study.
